… this is one diagnosis that provides meaningful access to medication and accommodations that can enable success in school and beyond.
Parents and students alike will understand why the ADD individual is so bright “but not performing up to their potential.”
I believe that labeling this unique brain functioning as a “deficit” and “disorder” is an error. Indeed, I do not think there is anything wrong with the ADD mind.
However, understanding the diagnosis helps people with this brain functioning engage in more effective strategies for learning and functioning.
My Assessment may include (depending on your needs):
- Interview with child and parent
- Testing
- Written report for IEP or 504
- Direct communication with a medical doctor to determine medication
- Follow-up meeting and retest to determine if any prescribed medication is working
